As a groundbreaking addition to its cloud service offerings, Amazon Web Services (AWS) has unveiled Dedicated Local Zones for on-premise cloud solutions.
Reportedly, these dedicated AWS local zones will cater specifically to customers working with sensitive data and applications requiring reliable and physically separate infrastructure.
Further, the service would help businesses maintain security and compliance within their chosen regulatory jurisdictions.
Dedicated AWS Local Zones are all about elasticity, scalability, and pay-as-you-go pricing, synonymous with AWS’s cloud solutions. With an added layer of security and governance features, customers can operate within a controlled environment while still harnessing the benefits of the cloud.
AWS has singularly designed these zones to eliminate the operational complexities of managing on-premise infrastructure at scale.
Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing, Matt Garman, highlighted that customers managing their infrastructure on-premises need to catch up on the cloud’s innovation, scalability, and resiliency and that AWS Dedicated Local Zones can offer tailored solutions.
The available services within Dedicated Local Zones include EC2, VPC, EBS, ELB, ECS, EKS, and Direct Connect. Also, the infrastructure will support consistent deployment of AWS resources across a range of application classifications. Multiple Dedicated AWS Local Zones can be deployed for enhanced resiliency.
The inaugural user of this service is the Singapore Government’s Smart Nation and Digital Government Group (SNDGG). The partnership with AWS will facilitate secure, isolated cloud workloads, keeping with Singapore’s stringent data isolation and security requirements.
AWS has not provided any details regarding the infrastructure’s footprint or cooling needs. However, the company has assured that the costs for Dedicated AWS Local Zones will be based on location, data center, services, and required features.
